I have reported false positives directly from the program in a previous version of Avast but was unable to find a way to do this from the version
I am using now. What is the suggested way to report a false positive?
I am running Avast Internet Security ver 5.0.677 and have a file that has been flagged as “Threat: Win32:Walivun [Trj]” during a scan last night.
This file is on a backup of my Motherboard Installation Disc and has been scanned multiple times by Avast and never flagged. I also double checked
it with Malwarebytes this morning and it says it is not a threat. The file is “DUBA07IS.10.EXE” and is in the following folder of the Installation
Disc for my Intel DX38BT Motherboard that I have backed up on my hard drive.
upload the file to http://www.virustotal.com to scan it with multiple av`s, than show us what are the results.
anyway if only avast detects it as virus you can send it from avast chest->right click on file->send to virus lab and from there select false positive and send it to them.
Given its location, Applications\Software\Applications\Kingsoft_Antivirus\KSAV_7.6.0.0\DUBA07IS.10.EXE and this appears to be related to another AV installation. My guess it it is detecting its unencrypted virus signatures.
Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it (or is this just on the installation disk) ?
Having two resident scanners installed is one too many and not recommended as rather than provide twice the protection it can cause conflicts that could leave you more vulnerable.
To submit a file in the Chest, all you need to do is right click a file and choose “Submit to virus lab.” There will be a short form where you can fill in that you think it is a false positive.
The file is too big (29 MB) for virustotal.com but I will submit it to the virus lab. I hadn’t moved it to the virus chest
because the file has been on my hard drive as a backup to the original installation disc for so long that I was pretty
sure it was harmless. I guess that’s why I couldn’t find a way to submit it as a possible false positive. I’ll move it to the
chest so I can submit it. So far I haven’t had any conflicts with Malwarebytes Pro and Avast Internet Security both on my computer.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I also checked the original file on the CD that came with my motherboard and just like the backup on my hard drive,
Avast detects it as a threat but Malwarebytes does not.
I can’t get “Submit to Virus Lab” to work. Nothing happens. No form comes up or anything when I click on Submit to Virus Lab.
I even uninstalled Avast and re-installed it and still can’t get it to work.
