Hi there
I was using the Avast Free version, win 7 pro, Office XP, and Excel 2003.
After years of happy use, the other day, I got a alert that a virus was found in excel.exe.
I selected ignore, but nothing changed.
I tried then to configure avast to allow excel.exe, didn’t work
Excel stopped working altogether, and I was unable to open Excel nor any exisiting files.
At bthe same time, I began to receive errors from Thunderbird, my mail reader, that I could not connect to smtp etc etc, and so could not send any emails.
I called Avast support line, and was told to uninstall and reinstall Avast, which I did, and same problems.
Sorry to Avast fans, I decided to uninstall Avast and use AVG which I have for a week with no problems, BUT, I love Avast and would like to go back to it
May I kindly ask what was causing the two issues for me and how or what can I do mabout them
thanks, cheers
peter
what can I do mabout themupload the file to avast lab so that they can correct the detection
You can report a possible FP here: http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php
you may add a link to this topic in case they reply
you can also use mail
send to virus@avast.com in a password protected zip file
mail subject: false positive
zip password: infected
or you can send files from avast chest
how to use the chest. http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB21
you can also upload and test the file at www.virustotal.com and see if others detect it
Well you don’t go into much detail of what exactly is stopping this, but my suspicion would be the autosandbox.
Old versions of MS Excel and MS Word weren’t digitally signed and because of their old status they won’t be found that frequently.
I have even older versions of MS Excel and MS Word than you and I just excluded them.
AvastUI > File System Shield > Settings > AutoSandbox and add them to the exclusions, see image (click to expand).
