False positive found since last june : FreeVideoDub.exe

Hello,

I would like to report a false positive … since last june, AVAST considers FreeVideoDub.exe as a virus. But it is not. It is a program to edit videos, I have it on my computer since 2010. It is absolutely not a virus !

Thank you very much

Next time
virus and false positive problems should be reported in Viruses and Worms forum section…that is what it was made for

You can report it using one of these options…you may add a link to this topic in case they reply here

You can upload files and report issues to avast here : http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php (select subject according to Your case)

You can use mail
send to virus@avast.com in a password protected zip file
mail subject: False Positive / undetected sample (select subject according to your case)
zip password: infected

or you can send files from avast chest
how to use the chest. http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB21

have you tested the file at www.virustotal.com if tested before, click new scan
post link to scan result here

there are reports online that the installer comes bundled with PUP crapware

Hello
Thanks for answering
So I just tested the file with virustotal, here are the results, 4/53 antiviruses considers it as a virus : https://www.virustotal.com/fr/file/8e23bf0f1754f142f24644d275da4e472f643251d0c49bdb9974fe90bf84603d/analysis/

First submission 2009-12-25 07:02:03 UTC ( 4 years, 7 months ago )

ESET NOD32 say it all a variant of Win32/Bundled.Toolbar.Ask.A
bundled with some ask toolbar carp

So I just tested the file with virustotal,
but you did not click the new scan button for a fresh result ..... Analysis date: 2014-07-07 06:20:21 UTC ( 1 month, 1 week ago )

I can read … But tell me … I have it since 2010, I use AVAST since 2007, why AVAST does detect it only since last june ? And why only 4 antiviruses on 53 antiviruses consider it as a virus ? Even KASPERSKY, AVG, BITDEFENDER, ANTIVIR, COMODO, F-SECURE, MacAFEE, … that are great antiviruses (even if I prefer AVAST) DON’T consider it as a virus, it is green next to their names !
I think that the company that made this program recently made programs with viruses inside so now all their programs are blacklisted … But this one is not a virus !

Do a New fresh scan at VT so we get latest result

I just did, a few minutes before your answer, but it always gives me the same results, and it says that the last analysis was last july 07th, so 1 month and 1 week ago.
I am sure it is not a virus, I already got a few viruses in 2010-2011 when I already had freevideodub.exe, some experts helped me on a french forum, they made me use “special” programs to detect all malwares / viruses, and they never considered freevideodub.exe as a virus … Then again, why AVAST didn’t consider it as a virus before last june ? I have freevideodub since 2010, and I have AVAST since 2007 ! Once I had to uninstall AVAST on my older computer I had until the end of 2011, and I installed KASPERSKY, and never KASPERSKY considered it as a virus, and when we see the results on virustotal, KASPERSKY still doesn’t consider it as a virus. So I think that it is a false positive for all the 4 antiviruses that consider it as a false positive

When you upload there should be a see latest result and a New scan button

Ok, I understand now, sorry
So I just did a new scan on it, so the latest results are a few seconds ago since I did a new scan, and I have the same results, there is one more antivirus, so there are 54 antiviruses, and so 4/54 antiviruses consider it as a virus : https://www.virustotal.com/fr/file/8e23bf0f1754f142f24644d275da4e472f643251d0c49bdb9974fe90bf84603d/analysis/1408199688/

ESET does not say virus, but bundled with ask toolbar crap … usually called PUP = Possible Unwanted Program

what is PUP https://www.malwarebytes.org/pup/

anyway, if you think detection from avast is wrong, report it using options given above

Ok, thanks
I had to use the avast chest, because impossible to send it even in a password protected zip file through gmail, gmail detected it as an exe program. And I tried to send it through the site, the connection to the site has been lost every time I tried :frowning:
So I just sent it through the avast chest

Thanks

Have a great week-end

When using Gmail you must use a zip program that encrypt the content, like 7zip or WinRAR

I used WinRar, but even protected with a password, Gmail found that it was an exe program :frowning:

Well, it doesn’t matter, now it has been sent through Avast chest

Thank you very much

Have a great week-end
