In short, it is about a false positive from Avast and VSantivirus say: "The phrase that AVAST takes like virus, is the following one:
– Bagle Author, 29.04.04, Germany
…If you have the AVAST, You will be asking why does not jump the alert now. It happens single because we did not add full stop (after Germany)… It is certain that any infallible antivirus does not exist, and that any product can commit the error to confuse certain sequences of codes with part of a virus. But really it surprises to us that an antivirus gets to block a simple phrase that of in case it does not have anything of malicious." (babelfish translation).
I have had AVAST for awhile now and it has been very trustworthy for me. I’m just an average user and I’m not very sure what all that mean; if it is important or just a minor issue… anyway, I just wanted to let you know.
I am just an average Avast user like yourself. I appreciate the post you made about this subject. I feel like the Avast team will also appreciate your post.
Please come back often, learn more, and maybe help others.
I just want to add that today I’ve checked again the article at VSAntivirus and I saw this update:
“VSAntivirus NOTE (07/02/06 18:00 -0200). In the last update of the product, AVAST corrected the error that produced this false positive, and no longer no false alarm with the mentioned text takes place” (babelfish translation).
I already knew that it was a minor issue (I asked about this at other forums and everybody told me the same) but the thing that amazes me is how fast it was corrected: the same day. Whow!
I have other security programs which I pay for, and I’ve seen false positives, important or minor, that takes weeks to be corrected…
For this and other good reasons, now I know what an “avast! Evangelist” is, because I’m starting to feel like one myself 8).
