We started getting a lot of complaints since April 1, 2006 that the setup executable for our ExamDiff 1.6n program is reported by Avast as infected by Win32:Nsane. The program is downloaded by our users at Download.com, and the file hasn’t changed in over a month. Quick test at http://virusscan.jotti.org/ and http://www.virustotal.com/ shows that Avast is the only anti-virus tool that reports the infection. Please fix the problem ASAP. We lose the trust of our users simply because your tool incorrectly reports a virus.
I’m an user like you (or better, I’m not from Alwil).
Anyway, I apologise for the inconvenience and I’ve reported them to correct this asap.
False positive:
More bad news: our ExamDiff Pro setup executable also gets the same false-positive Nsane from Avast only. Both setups were created by the popular Inno Setup utility. Avast, please resolve this problem. So far there’s nothing but silence from you.
For speed you could send samples of the file/s to avast, if you can zip and password protect (‘virus’, will do) the suspect file and send it to virus @ avast.com (no spaces).
Give a brief outline of the problem (possibly a link to this thread), the fact that you believe it to be a false positive and include the password in the body of the email.
The sample has been sent. But really, isn’t there enough information in this thread to confirm the bug? For an anti-virus software vendor, I’d think you could move a little faster.
Yes there probably is enough in the thread, but first someone has to find the thread and act on it, by sending the samples direct to the virus @ avast.com that may well speed things up.
Tech (an avast user and Translator) responded quickly to your post and said he would report it. Then one of the Alwil Team responded in 1 minute over the hour stating that it will be corrected in the upcoming VPS update. Sorry is that not a fast response ?
Confirming a bug is one thing, but a sample allows it to be analysed and correct the signature detections.

Yes, Tech responded quickly but he said:
I’m an user like you
And Igor responded only a few minutes ago, well over 12 hours after the original post. Please remember, this situation is causing our users to drop our products only because of this problem with Avast.
Well, 13 hours & 1 min seems like a fairly fast response time to me. You should also remember that the avast team might be several time zones away from you.
I would like to see you get that quick of a response from one of the “big name” anti-virus companies. :
