As you seem to be the only one with this problem you will need to provide alot more information as to what was detected and what pdf reader your using and what avast shield blocked this ?
I’m using PDF-XChange Viewer as pdf reader.
And all pdf file type cannnot be opened. And it is not only happened in 1 PC, other PCs which are using Avast Pro 4.8 with this false position problem.
I need to turn off Avast protection function and make opening the PDF files correctly.
As the same time, I tested it with Avast Pro 6.0 and using same virus definition. It seems no problem for opening Pdf files.
So, I think it is just caused the problem in using ver 4.8
OS…??
The problem is happened in Win XP SP2 / SP3
And, I have not take a look for PC which using WinMe. But I guess there are same happen.
The reason why I do not update to Avast Pro 6.0 because I still have several PCs with WinME.
Thanks
Do you use any avast! business products…??
no, i just bought Avast Pro licenses only
Ok, so update at least your XP machines to version 6…!
Does it possible to keep the current state ?
I means other than update to 6.1.
Since, there was no problem the day before. And, the program update will cause the heavy effort to me.
Thanks !
When will Avast release the fixed signature update for 4.8 ?
Thanks
There are not many 4.8 users left, as also the business products got updated lately.
And as you’re the only one who reported any problems…
Well, wait for the next VPS update and see, if it works for you.
Thanks, hope Avast Development team knew this issue and solved it at signature update tomorrow !
You’re welcome…!
Good luck…!
PDF Xchange has been working for me with no problems
…with Avast v4.8? Or with v6.0?
@tlee,
If the problem was a database update, it may be solved in future updates.
In the meantime, maybe you could find a workaround, like for example using a portable PDF viewer/reader. Being portable, it should give you a simple interface without messing with your current Windows settings. When the problem would be solved in Avast databases, then you simple delete the folder of the protable PDF viewer and you continue with your usual program, PDF Xchange.
Of course, if you also need edition of PDF, that may be “more complicated” to temporarily workaround.
For portable PDF viewers, there are many options. Ask here if you are interested.
Snap, but then again I’m not using avast 4.8, though I can’t see how that would be an issue as I don’t think there would be a huge difference in the Malware-gen signature for avast 4.8 and avast 5/6.
Well, these are still two different databases, afaik.
Yes they are, but if anything the avast5/6 database would have greater generic/heuristic detection rate, which I would have though more prone to FP than 4.8. Or it may just be more accurate because of this and another reason to upgrade to avast6 ;D
I wish i didn’t put my old xp to rest, i could have installed 4.8 on it to see if i could replicate the problem, it was a good sacrificial test bed
