After I ran a scan and no virus was found, I took a chance and shut down the Avast Web Shield and the Yahoo mail module immediately started loading again and my computer seems to be working fine. Any idea why this happened? Can I safely assume it’s a false positive? I’d like to restart the Web Shield, but I’m not going to do it if it means I can’t read my e-mails.
Thanks for any help/advice. My computer knowledge is only average, so please keep it as simple as possible if there is any additional info you need to analyze this problem.
The same thing has been happening to me today. I posted in a seperate topic here. I went through the threads you referred to, but at the risk of sounding stupid, what do I actually need to do? Is this just Avast FPing on ads in yahoo? How do I fix it? Is Avast going to fix it? I don’t want to undo webshield, but these popup warnings are driving me crazy, and they won’t let me change my My Yahoo start page.
essexboy, I’ve got the same question as grey777. Is there anything we can do to stop the false positives short of shutting down the Web Shield? Nothing in the link gave any help on that and, unless I’m mistaken, I seem to be dealing an entirely different false positive than what is being discussed in the link.
When I came home from work about an hour ago I’m getting the same thing on my roadrunner mail and I use Roadrunner for my home page and it’s happening there too. So I guess it’s not just Yahoo. For now, until they get it fixed, it might be easier to turn off the sound that goes with warnings.
