False positive

Whenever I load a game, Colin McRae’s Rally 04 via GameJackal the follow warning appears from Avast:

C:\DOCUME~1\UserName\LOCALS~1\Temp\adxapie.sys
Win32:Trojan-gen. {Other}
Virus/Worm
000722-4, 09/03/2007

Along with subsequent warning with the full name (rather than te 8.3 one above).

However this warning only appears the first time the game is loaded per boot of Windows, and both a Thorough scan of the system (complete with compressed file check) reveals nothing. I checked this using Microsoft’s Live scan and Prevx1, both of which also registered the system as clean using their most thorough scan settings. I strongly suspect that this is a false positive, but is there anywhere I can send the file to for verification?

You can find instructions for confirming and reporting false positives at this link:

If the suspected file proves to be a false positive, it can also be excluded from your scan. :slight_smile:

Welcome to the forums.

There is a file of that name associated with Backdoor.Genlot.DX so it would be good to scan it at Jotti and Virus Total

I feel virustotal is the better first option to check as it uses the windows version of avast (more packers supported) and there are currently 29 different scanners.
