False / Positives

Hi,

I have a folder called “VBox Exchange” located in C:, inside that folder I have software I need to transfer to my VirtualBox which I can then install and then use to do my (time critical) job; I work for a government institution and delays are unacceptable.

Avast, in its genius, has marked EVERYTHING in that folder as “malware” … which-it-is-NOT.
The software includes; Toad (an Oracle SQL Development Tool), XMLSpy (a program that lets you enter XML code and view it in a readable format) and Oracle i9 which is a database with database tools and utilities.

I may have gone past it without seeing it, but I can’t see/find a way to either a) shut off Avast temporarily so I copy/install the necessary files to my VirtualBox or b) mark the (now Virus Chested) files as safe.

The files are NOT infected, the files are NOT malware and were downloaded from legitimate sources about 3 weeks ago, whereupon they were then scanned for viruses/malware/etc and came back clean. This issue only started happening this morning.

How can I go about telling the AV to stop it’s nonsense and let me continue with my work? :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks,
Seb

Which shield is giving the detection? i suspect the file shield so you can try adding the folder to the exclusions in the file system shield and also to exclusions in settings.

Hi,

I managed to get around it; I figured out how to disable the shields and restore the files - but my Oracle 9i setup directory is damaged beyond repair so I have to re-download, fun times.

Thanks for your response anyway, appreciate it.
