False Positives?

All this week, I have gotten warnings about something being blocked
or detected. It happens on the same page- a Boston newspaper site.
It has started out of the blue. I ASSume they are simply false warnings,
but what could be causing them and how can I stop it? (It’s at
bostonherald.com)

One other problem/question: I recently updated Firefox and Adobe

Flash. Now, whenever I do a virus scan, it tells me several files can’t
be scanned b/c they are password-protected. All are gif or other similar
picture files. I haven’t had any problems- so nothing to worry about?

Thank you!

How do I handle files that avast! can’t scan? http://blog.avast.com/2014/02/28/how-do-i-handle-files-that-avast-cant-scan/ if they are temp/cashe files they may be removed by running CCleaner ..... however it is normal to have some files that can not be scanned

what is the exact message on the popup warning ...... post a screenshot if you have not rebooted since last popup ... right click avast tray icon, show last popup .... click pin in top right corner and pin it to screen, take screenshot

Avast tells me the Web Shield has blocked a harmful web page or
file. It appears to be a client popup ad for the site.

Object: http://client-verify.adtricity.com/?check=2
Infection: URL:Mal

Process is from Firefox’s EXE file

If I select More Details, I get a notice that Internet Explorer has
encountered a problem & needs to shut down, send error report.
(But I’m using Firefox!)

AFA unscanned files, I know some files can’t be scanned. But again,
this suddenly started after updates to Firefox & Flash. They are all
PW-protected GIF & Jason picture files. They seem harmless/useless
anyway. Can I simply ignore them? Or can/should I find a way to
delete them?

it means avast is blocking a blacklisted URL or IP ..... or it is a False positive

do you go to this site?
or do you get this when doing nothing? … if so you may have a bug that try to phone home

Clicking above link hxxp://client-verify.adtricity.com/?check=2 gives this: (See attached .png) Entire web page is blank except for this entry. (Link is broken on purpose) No alert from avast!
