What version of avast and VPS do you have?

I have 4.8.1282 and VPS 081116-1 and the file folder-lock.exe is clean.

Hi , thanks for responding . I’m using 4.8.1282 and VPS 081118-0 . I wasn’t referring to their website file . I was just showing that link as to what the program is , also from their site they have the latest version . I have an older version of that program just downloaded on my drive . I am not using the program and I have scan many time already with Avast before and never did it alert me about it until now . The file is to big to load on them sites and this is the reason as to my post , how can I be sure the one I have isn’t a trojan ? Thanks

Can you send the file to Chest and resend it to Alwil for analysis? (right click the file into Chest).

Okay will do but can you tell me what or how to send to Avast once its in the Chest ?

Thanks

Right click the file and choose ‘email to Alwil…’. avast will take care of sending the file on next virus database update (manual or automatic one).

Or program update it will also be sent, I had one go up after the recent program update, after the download but before the actual installation of the update, see image of what it looks like.

I did try that but nothing happen

Did you update your virus database or program manually after that?

David, thanks for the screenshot

Nothing physically happens, e.g. no email is sent, but are you saying that you didn’t even get a pop-up to complete the details, see image (this image is of the new submission method, from 4.8.1282 or later). You also have to have either selected the file in the chest or right click on the file in the chest.

You’re welcome, I thought it would be useful when it popped up out of the blue so I did a quick capture.

Correct , no pop up , nothing . I right click within the Chest the file and click "Email to Alwil software " . I am always updating this software manually .

There certainly seems to be something wrong with your installation (see repair below).
What happens if you right click on the file and select Extract ?
It should pop-up a windows explorer style window to select where to extract it too (don’t do anything, cancel out of it), just testing if other elements aren’t working.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

If that doesn’t work try, reinstall.

It would probably be best to first Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

  1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.
  2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.
  3. install the latest version, reboot.

I’m wondering whether it might be because I am using Vista sp1 Ultimate , some sore of pop up blocker because even now with those links you just listed if I click on them , nothing happen .

I did though just now sented by zipping the file with password ( Winrar ) and email it to Alwil which that method work .

I will try your other suggested even knowing i’m using the latest version / build of Avast .

I will also try this using XP Pro which I dual boot with separate drives .

Thanks

Sorry I have zero experience of Vista, though if it were some pop-up blocker I wouldn’t have expected that to block links and even if it did I would have though that it would have notified you of it. I know UAC can be a pain in the rear, but at least that notifies you.

This does happen

With XP I am able to load your links but not with Vista .

Okay I have used your uninstall cleaner under safe mode which it did uninstall . Now I installed it again with new license keys as well . BTW I’m using my XP system . Now again I gave it a try and still it doesn’t do anything afterward , no pop up . Maybe I’m doing something wrong . Let start after I click " Email to Alwil software " What should I click on afterwards ?

Thanks so much for all your patience and support .

My reply #11, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=40139.msg336727#msg336727 shows the window that should pop-up:

  1. The file name should already be in the File: text field.
  2. The next text field has a menu drop down list select the appropriate category.
  3. Your email address isn’t compulsory, but I tend to complete it (once completed it will be remembered if you have to use the form again).
  4. Additional info: why you feel it is a false positive, link to this forum topic, etc.
  5. Check the box ‘I know what I’m doing.’
  6. Click submit and it will be transmitted after the next auto or manual update.
