Avast reports FP when downloading xheaderprosetup1215.exe from official xheader site. Previously xheader forum reported an FP with Avast for the free Xheader version - this was recently fixed. Now same problem occurs with the Pro version ???. Intellimon just emailed me saying they reported this FP to Avast but I should do so too as it’s Avast’s problem. Can someone fix this PDQ please??? I have been trying to download xheaderprosetup1215.exe for a week now, hoping each Avast update would fix it, but no joy.
upload suspicous file(s) to www.virustotal.com and test with 43 malware scanners
when you have the result, copy the URL in the address bar and post it here for us to see
alternative
VirSCAN http://virscan.org/
Jotti http://virusscan.jotti.org/en
I cannot upload anything because Avast will not let me download the file! It is a massive download of over 400mb and at about 18 mb I get the virus warning. If I continue to the end it will scan and quarantine the file.
Anyhow, how will it help if another anti-virus check tells me the file is OK, if it will not run on my system because of Avast?
FYI the virus reported is Win32:Malware-gen
I could submit the file to Avast virus lab but (a) it would take me hours to upload the file and (b) since Avast was able to fix their scan of the free version, presumably they can do the same for the Pro version.
Anyhow, how will it help if another anti-virus check tells me the file is OK, if it will not run on my system because of Avast?it will help confirm false positive or not....
the upload limit is 20mb… 25mb at jotti so wont work with this
anyway avast team will see this post, and do something… if lucky they may even respond here
There is an on-line contact form, http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php?loadStyles for: * Sales inquiries; Technical issues; Website issues; Report false virus alert in file; Report false virus alert on website; Press (Media), issues.
- If you are reporting an FP, then you get another input field open, enter the full web URL for the site and file you are trying to download, etc. A link to this topic wouldn’t hurt.
DavidR - Many thanks. I just used the report form but it did not work as expected. I could not upload the file using “Browse” since it was quarantined. I therefore reported it as a false alert on a webpage, and put the URL in the field and an explanation in the comments section.
The URL I tried to download from is:
http://intellimon.s3.amazonaws.com/xheader/xheaderprosetup1215.exe
I also included a reference to this post. I hope this will get through to the right team member, even though it is a really the .exe file and not a website which is causing the problem.
I didn’t say to use the Browse key as that is looking the file on your hard disk and that isn’t what you are reporting. That is why I said to report as FP on web site in my post, that you eventually found, but it is important to give the full URL as I mentioned or they won’t be looking at the right file, extra emphasis in Red below…
I am glad I made the report the right way, and am looking forward to a positive outcome.
It works! Was able to successfully download & launch XHeader Pro today, after Avast update 110824-0.
Thank you, Avast! ![]()
They are usually quick to correct a false positive when reported and analysed.
