Fast and Full Scan dont work

Hi everyone.

I’m a fairly new Avast user and when I try to use either the fast scan or the full system scan it stays at 0% and doesn’t get past “C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe” and the scan speed stays at 0.0 B per second. Only the boot time scan works, I’ve tried repairing Avast with the control panel but it didn’t help.
During my last boot scan it said “C:\WINDOS\system32\drivers\ndis.sys” was a virus and i cant delete it or move it to the quarantine, I don’t know if that might have something to do with it.

Thanks for the help.

Hi lets have a quick check

Download aswMBR.exe ( 1.8mb ) to your desktop.
Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it Click the “Scan” button to start scan

On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply

The scan gets stuck at “C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers” :frowning:
Here’s the report up to that:

Run the scan again, but this time try changing the AV Scan from Quickscan to None and post the complete contents of the aswMBR log.

As a side note: Update your XP to SP3…!!!

I changed the scan to Normal but it got stuck on the drivers folder, same as last time.

As I said try None, no scan.

Oh sorry, that’s what I meant. I put it in none and it still got stuck

Before you continue, see Reply #4…!!!

It isn’t advisable to do an SP update when your system may be infected, not that SP3 would have anything to do with the aswMBR hanging during the scan.

So it is the drivers folder that it is stopping on

Lets have a look there

Download OTL to your Desktop

[*]Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
[*]Select All Users
[*]Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
netsvcs
%SYSTEMDRIVE%*.exe
/md5start
explorer.exe
winlogon.exe
Userinit.exe
svchost.exe
/md5stop
C:\Windows\assembly\tmp\U /s
CREATERESTOREPOINT

[*]Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
[*]When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
[*]Attach both logs

OTL gets stuck while scanning kpagffis

OK that is a malware driver
