Which is your Windows? 98, Me, XP?
Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
There was indeed another anti-virus installed (NoD32), must have slips in somehow. :o (with my sleeping head I guess)
So I uninstalled both Avast and the intruder Nod32.
Re installed Avast and everything is up and running smoothly.
Thanks for the tip, cause I would never checked if there was another anti-virus installed.
After a little inquiry, it came with a software packet “Hitmanpro”. This is too remove all the nasty spyware and bundles different anti spam and adawaresoft, like spybot ad awareSE cwshredder etc…
It works perfect, but apparently it installs Nod32 in a demoversion, in the update version it installs also superdat virusscan.
