Feature missing in avast 9 compare to avast 5

Hi!
Recently i inserted one of my old software DVD, i found avast v5 free setup there.
so i installed it in a virtual machine and start comparing with latest v9.

Here are some good old features that are not present in avast 9.

1. —>DELETE A SINGLE SCAN LOG FROM HISTORY
it is good to have this feature, avast 9 clean up all history instead.
also please can add an option to delete a single virus from chest.

2. —> VPS AND PROGRAM VERSION ON HOME SCREEN
avast 9 does not shows vps and program version on home screen, while in avast 5 it does and user can hide this info also.
avast 9 could have this feature too, especially xp users cant see this in avast tray icon’s tooltip also.

3. ---->QUICK REVIEW SCAN SETTINGS
this feature exists in avast 8 also. but not in v9. the SCAN screen looks empty in avast 9 (until you start a scan).
if user wants to review scan settings ,he has to go through all of its settings.
it would be use full to hint user if selected scan has been scheduled or not on the same screen.

4. —>Snipped

5. ----> IGNORE a false positive when set ACTION to “Ask”
I can not found this feature in avast 5 nor avast 9. i think is available in avast 8.
This option will helps a lot, for example - Win32:Evo-gen [susp],

Which feature are you missing ? ::slight_smile:
See more in posted images–>

EDIT: typo + remove 4th feature as @igor explained
UPDATE: added 5th feature (@Randissimo)

It has never been possible to stop a running update (yes, a Cancel button was there, but it didn’t really stop the update, so it was removed).

thanks for the explanation @igor

What about 8 to 9
1.How can I see what some real time shield is currently scanning…everything is merged now,you can’t see a log for only one shield(which was actually useful to me)
2.Where are the logs what have been blocked or not
3.“Your Stats” takes way too long to be loaded the first time

one can see real time shield activity on STATISTICS>>REAL TIME DATA.

avast saves all logs in :
C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\logs (xp)
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\logs (vista/7/8)

you can set each shield to generate a report file also

That’s the activity of all shields, not per shield.
For example if I do something file shield and web shield related,it will show reports one after another, not only for the shield you want to check.

Those folders don’t exist

The only folder called log and it’s avast related is in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Persistent Data\Avast\Logs
and I have only two files there…setup(288kb) and update(3.30mb)

The option “Generate report file” is enabled on all shields but I don’t see reports anywhere(I didn’t touch that option at all)

Avast 9 is installed after completely removing avast 4 in safe mode using the special uninstaller from here

the logs folder path is correct for me (xp)
see my screenshot
+
all reports can be found here in my win xp (I think you are on win vista or 7 or 8.x )
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\report
i got this path from avast local help file (open avast and press F1 to launch help)
+
i think some cleaning software has cleaned your logs and reports .
do you use ccleaner or ace utility or similar software.?

edit: typo

Hmm,it’s log(folder name)not logs…that’s why I didn’t find it
The logs are in the report folder but they don’t look easy to read

Does the 0 means,connection blocked?
JS:Redirector-BJC [Trj] (0)

PS.I’m on windows xp

glad you got your logs folder.
.
well, i don’t know about that 0, (may be you mean it right = blocked connection).
you can ask some Experienced person (in some other thread) about these lines in your logs.

thanks !

1. --->DELETE A SINGLE SCAN LOG FROM HISTORY it is good to have this feature, avast 9 clean up all history instead. also please can add an option to delete a single virus from chest.

This and the possibility to allow/whitelist/ignore virus/suspicious threats which are false positive right in the pop-up when it’s set to ASK:

@randisso

If you’re agreeing that much with me, how come you haven’t added it to the starting posting yet?
