Dear Avast team,

I’ve just installed and tested the AT function of new Avast for Android… Wow, it’s great :slight_smile:

as I don’t have rooted phone - I can’t use GPS, but other functions works just great. I have a few features propositions:

  • sms command for taking a picture via camera and sending to a friends phone (it probably can be done with own remote commands, tried, but have no idea how to do it)
  • possibility to set 2 different sound alarms and choose the current one via sms command (usage: first I’m trying to find the phone without letting the thief know that I have remote control, so I’m playing just loud music and hope to hear it, later - I can switch to the default alarm ‘stolen’ :))
  • as for ‘stealth’ mode - on SGII hiding AT works great, additionally I’ve hidden the Avast icon, so nobody would notice Avast at first glance. I just hope that I’ll get notifications from antivirus without an icon in the tray
  • is there any workaround for GPS on/off on non rooted phones? like additional soft/widget that turns GPS on/off and step by step instruction how to use it via own remote commands sms, as this functionality I miss the most

    this feature will be available as soon as the internet remote control becomes available in a few weeks.

    although we offer a LOT of features, we still try to keep the app as simple as possible. therefor I recommend to call your phone in order to make it ring and find it.

    unfortunately the software needs root privileges to turn on GPS on it’s own. We’d like to change it but - it’s not possible. still - in urban regions the triangulation via cells and wifi is almost as accurate as GPS and - it works indoors too.

Just noticed this post from march mentioning ‘Internet Remote Control’ ?

is this regarding the web portal and the ability to snap photos etc?

also I have some feature requests which I think you may have read on my other post but will reiterate them here
as well.

  • ability to manually switch between GPS/WiFi-triangulation (rooted)
  • ability to capture audio/video/images, save to SD & Email (optional)
  • reduce the number of SMS messages sent from phone , ie: errors etc.
  • use of email/https as well as SMS (reduce costs on SMS Messages)
  • recover deleted SMS messages (something overlooked)
  • web portal / tracker like maps.google.com xx.xxxx,xx.xxxx (has ability to show all locations entered)
  • tutorial on how to use remote commands in regards to launching applications on phone remotely
  • few other idea’s , concepts etc posted here
  • have a separate activation token via SMS commands for use with friends-only numbers and reserve password ‘2222’ for all other phones perhaps.

regarding the use custom ringtone suggestion , that would only work if the thief had not already replaced the sim-card I guess…

Over a year since this comment was posted, and we’re still waiting for the ability to remotely take photos?

Any update on the availability of this VITAL feature?
