I have received a suspicious email. I use TheBat! with avast module loaded, and the email has downloaded. It had a zip file, but (how stupid I was) when I tried to open it there was a message “zip file is corrupted”. Then I scaned it with avast (which is always updated), but no virus was found. But, when I’ve tried to delete this file, I get a message “this file is used…”
So, is this some new virus avast does not detect?
If so, where can I upload this file for testing?
Most probably the file is not infected but it’s corrupted.
To be sure, you can test it here: Jotti and let us know the results, i.e., if it is or not a virus.
Other way of testing it, see: http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/mwav.asp or http://www.security-ops.tk
Or: TrendMicro Housecall, Bit Defender, F-Secure (ActiveX required).
Thank you for a quick response. Jotti found nothing, but I’m still suspicious. You know, it seems packed, but when I’ve opened it in UltraEdit it had “MZ” characters somewhere in middle, clearly indicating an executable.
Anyway, I’ll restart my comp, and try to delete it.
So send the file to avast! chest, adding it as an user file.
Open the chest, click on user files icon, right click the window and choose add to send this file there
But I won’t even worry with it… Jottin says negative, avast! that the zip is corrupted… 8)
