Few Questions...

I have used Norton, Mcafee and Avg before but Avast seems to be more impressive. I want to know few things –

  1. I found after installing avast my internet speed went down, because it scans all the files, I added jpg, gif, swf, css exntensions in exception list to make it a bit quicker…Does norton or mcafee also scan http traffic ? was it safe to exclude extensions like jpg?

  2. Is there a way so I could export and import settings? i have to format my pc and i dont want to configure it again

  3. where i can get complete file extensions which are potentially harmful and should be blocked like *.pif. I think avast can act as antispyware too because of its url blocking

  4. I dont use outlook express and use webmail like gmail, so is it safe to disable internet mail service?

My fst impression is this is a great product, and if you keep up the good work i think it will be #1 av program.

Avast! Webshield scans Http traffic, McAfee and Norton does not. I believe you decreased your security for webshield if you excluded some extensions. Did you exclude it in Webshield or Standard Shield? :-\

I’m sorry I didn’t understand this question. :frowning:

Unfortunley, avast! is not a antispyware program. You can try google to find harmful extensions if you like.

You may disable Outlook Shield but if you are using emails such as gmail, you might want to keep Internet Mail Shield. Hotmail and yahoo mail, you don’t really need Internet Mail Shield cause they have a virus scanner already.

If you are talking about servers settings, languages, etc. then yes, you can, just copy \Avast4\DATA\avast4.ini
but you need to select packages which you want to install at installation, futhermore, you need to copy a Licence-Key
