Ran OTL and it said scans complete but no notepads were created…I waited some time but nothing appeared so I’ve sterted another scan now…will post the log if it works this time
Hmm this is one intriguing little blighter
Re-booted and rant OTL as administrator and it worked this time - attached are the note pads.
OK I was looking in the wrong user id
Run OTL
[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
:OTL O35 - HKU\S-1-5-21-1801674531-115176313-839522115-1003..exefile [open] -- "C:\Documents and Settings\Ollie\Local Settings\Application Data\fgr.exe" -a "%1" %* O37 - HKU\S-1-5-21-1801674531-115176313-839522115-1003\...exe [@ = exefile] -- "C:\Documents and Settings\Ollie\Local Settings\Application Data\fgr.exe" -a "%1" %*:Files
ipconfig /flushdns /c
C:\Documents and Settings\Ollie\Local Settings\Application Data\fgr.exe:Commands
[purity]
[resethosts]
[emptytemp]
[EMPTYFLASH]
[CREATERESTOREPOINT]
[Reboot]
[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.
Ok all done as requested…logs attached…fingers crossed.
That shows clean - what problems now ?
Awesome, you’re a star!
It looks fine, thanks for all your help. I’ve just updated to the latest version of avast… Could you do me one last favour and recommend a good (free) secutity setup for my pc please? I don’t know whether it’s advisable to run something other than Avast along side it… I used to have spywareblaster avast and adaware all on there because one would catch something another might not…but that was a while ago. My Windows Security centre is telling me Firewall is on manual (I think I did that because it was interfering with avast or something a while ago) and auto updates off… I realise these are probably obvious questions but… thanks.
Hmm I wouldn’t say that as I made the basic error of getting the wrong userid - but it was late ![]()
Anyways - lets give you the full nine yards. Avast and MBAM should suffice, is windows updates working ?
I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems
Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean ![]()
A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:
Run OTL
[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
:Commands [resethosts] [purity] [emptytemp] [EMPTYFLASH] [CLEARALLRESTOREPOINTS] [Reboot]
[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK:
ComboFix /Uninstall
Run OTL again and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself. For AVP and ASWMbr just delete from the desktop
We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
[*]Click Start.
[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[]Click OK.

SPRING CLEAN
Download and run Puran Disc Defragmenter
For the first run I would recommend a boot defrag and disk check
http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Bootdefrag.jpg
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/7729/mbamicontw5.gif
Malwarebytes. Update and run weekly to keep your system clean
Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link
It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.
To keep your operating system up to date visit
[*]Microsoft Windows Update

Ok thank, I’ve left it defraggin for now…looks like it could be there a while.
I don’t know about windows updates…just that when I log on now the Windows Security Centre (?) shield in the task bar is red because firewall is set to manual and automotic updates are set to off…but when I try to turn them on it says I cant, from there, and I need to check some settings or other… That’s prettty vague but I can tell you exactly what it says when its finished defragging. I seem to remember there being some conflict between avast and windows before so i had to disable something…but i think that was the firwall? Not sure.
OK windows update repair
Go to this page
Run the fixit there (big button about one third the way down) - if the normal run does not cure it then re run and use the aggressive mode
Ran windows repair update…automatic updates now appear to be on, but Firfox is now running in Safe mode again. How do I stop this?
Alas that is one programme I do not use I will have a look around, but if any one else knows HELP ;D
OK that appeared to be easy - follow the destructions here http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox%20is%20stuck%20in%20Safe%20Mode
Thanks, that looks to have sorted it easily.
I defragged overnight and installed the other programs you suggested. Will run the system as it is now for 24 hours as requested and post back with any more problems…lets hope there aren’t any though eh!
Thanks for all your help so far.
Thanks for all your help so far.Only if you let me off for the silly error ;D
Sorry I keep meaning to update you on this… Guess everything seems less urgent when it works eh!
Thanks for your help, it seems to have cleared it up. Only query I have is that now when I boot it momentarily comes up with a Dos like message asking me which system I want to boot? If I don’t press anything it automatically boots XP after a few seconds but I’d not noticed this before. I’d say it was a little slow at booting too but nothing I’m overly concerned with.
OK that is the recovery console - now lets see if I can remember how to turn it off
Right click my computer and select properties
Select Startup and recovery
Remove the tick for Time to show boot options (or something like that )
Should be similar to my piccies
