File Download Moved?

For some reason, I can no longer download files through Safari which reports “… can’t display file because it has been moved since download…” or something to that affect.

Could this be related to Avast protection?

Safari v5.1.4
Avast v7.0.1466
Windows XP w/all SPs

Thanks,
Bob

Is there an Avast log file I can check that might help me sort this out?

Guess, it will be hard to find someone running Safari on XP…

Isn’t there an option to open the folder containing the file you just downloaded?
Try that instead of simply opening the file directly from the download.

Yes, Safari presents a “Downloads” window which shows progress and option to go directly to download folder after xfer is complete. When I click that option I get the “… file not found - moved…” error. Also searched entire hard drive for target file. Not found.

This all worked fine for a long time. Only recent upgrade I can think of is Avast.

did it happen to one file or many?
have you looked in avast chest …was it detected as malware and quarantined ?

First download that caused me to notice problem was an executable (<.exe) which is why my attention turned to Avast. I thought perhaps the file was “isolated” (moved) by Avast as a precaution. However, I’ve discovered that any file download processed through the Safari “Downloads” window suffers the same outcome.

I have inspected the Avast “Virus Chest” and there is no indication that any of the problem downloads have been detected as suspect.

Which Avast Shield would be involved with file downloads through a Browser?

Is there some simple test I can perform to confirm Avast is not involved in this issue?
