avast moved a file to chest as PUP from inside of a zipped archive… i wanted that file back, so i clicked restore…i expected-the file must be restored inside the zip file…but nothing happened like tat…i think avast cannot add a file to a zip archive…
it would be better to have an option"restore to specified folder" in these cases.
wat shuld i do to get tat file back
example:
download
https://secure.eicar.org/eicar_com.zip
create a new text document and add it to archive(drag and drop text document over eicar_com icon)
scan eicar_com zip file with avast.click show results.select move to chest and “apply” button.
now eicar.com is moved to chest but eicar_com zip file contains only a text docu inside it as eicar.com is removed…
now goto chest and try to restore eicar.com
it’ll not get restored.
This is a potential bug
Now watever u do, u cannot getback eicar.com from chest :o :o :o :o
yes if the file within the chest is a zipped file u can extract, but in this case its a .com file…how can u extract that??
Is restore to specified folder named as ‘extract’ in avast??
You can extract whatever you like, no matter what it is, restore is a different ballgame if the file came from an archive as Vlk said.
To extract a file that you know avast is going to detect then you are first going to have to add it to the avast Settings, Exclusions and the File System Shield, Expert Settings, Exclusions. You need to do that before you extract it or it will look back to the chest if you have the the automated actions in the File System Shield set to move to the chest. Either that or you change the automated actions to Ask and you chose what action to take.
I suggest that you spend a little time rummaging through the avastUI, avast Settings and avast Help file (and make yourself familiar with avast), as the majority of questions you have asked of late are all to be found there.
Restore is as it says on the Tin, restore to the original location (with certain exceptions, one mentioned) and with extract, you nominate the folder you want to extract it to.
Yes thanks, the word extract sounded for me as ‘omly for archives’ but it works now…
and ‘ask’ option in filesystem shield is a boon to me. i was not aware of it’s use till now.
