File sent to Avast during heuristic check?

Whilst online, an avast pop-up told me that avast had detected a possible malware file during a heuristic check, and could it send the file to avast for checking. Like a clot, I clicked ok before taking note of the filename. I immediately stopped surfing and ran a detailed scan and it came up clear. I looked in the chest & no files had been moved there. I also looked in Settings, Virus Alert but no details there either. What happens now? Is there any other place I should look, I’ve had no email confirmation from avast. Feel a bit helpless, should be doing something but don’t know what?

Was this a pop up that blocked you from going into a site…a warning?

The next time you get an Avast definitions update, the file you sent to Avast will be uploaded to them and analyzed. You won’t get an email.

For now, I would update your Avast definitions if they were not done recently and run an Avast Quick scan. You can also update MBAM and run a Quick scan. If you’re in the paranoid mood, you can run an Avast Boot-time scan. But it sounds like the pop-up was just a warning and no harm was done.

BTW, you really should update your Avast from the outdated version you have to the current one (5.0.594) for better security and speed.

Thanks SafeSurf, I have the latest version 5.0.594 and the definitions are right up to date. Ive just run MBAM and that came up clear. I’ll run a boot-scan as you suggest. Didn’t realise it won’t be sent to Avast until the next definitions update, is there any way of finding out the details before its sent?

Edit: just realised my signature is out of date, still says 4.8 sorry

If you right click the orange icon by the clock, there is a " show last popup "

Mine is greyed out. Does that only show up if you had a pop-up?

Not sure but i think it dissapear if you have done a restart since you had the popup…

@ Geoffo,

If you rebooted your machine…probably not.

You have done everything correctly. I really don’t think you have anything to worry about. Just keep your definitions updated and keep doing what you have been doing. If you run into problems, let us know and we will help you out. But you did the right thing by coming here.

Thanks for your help. I have rebooted during running a bootscan, so my ‘last popup message’ is also greyed out - good to know for the future though

Yes, I wasn’t aware of that either. If the boot scan is clean, just keep doing what you have been doing and don’t worry. Like I said, you did the right thing.

You are quite welcome.
