Hello,
I’ve got a windows xp and a windows 8 PC connected to the same network via the same router. I’ve tried google several times and tried finding a solution to network or share files between the two but nothing works out well. So I came here for help as when I turn avast’s shields offline, file sharing works fine. So I just wanna ask what goes wrong when I turn the shields back on.
I’ve got both the PCs connected to the router via two Ethernet cables. Both the PCs have the same workgroup and none of them show up on the network list or the file sharing places.
I’m using windows xp sp3 and windows 8 64 bit.
P.S: I’ve also posted it on windows forums already and it turned out avast again.
Edit: Avast is doing this only on windows XP so just need a fix for windows XP and windows 8 is running another antivirus which isn’t causing any problem as when avast is turned off, everything works fine.

Ananya
hey and welcome to the forum.
you could use google drive to send files from one computer to another just upload the file and log in to the same place with the other computer and there you find the file you uploaded from the first computer.
Hello and thanks for your reply.
I know that there are several more options for me but the reason I came here is that I want to share them on my LAN, so that the speed is maintained. Also I don’t wanna connect to the internet is the other reason (for sharing files). And as avast! was the one causing problem, I decided to get some help from here. If there are some exceptions or some other friend IPs that avast uses to permit local area file sharing which I don’t know about, please let me know about it. If not please let me know for a solution.

Hi, I found this rather old thread here that is somewhat similar to your issue.Reply #4 seemed to work for them.

It appears that this more of a win xp issue than a problem with the av.Hope this helps in some way.
Thanks for your reply. Just for the record, I’ve already referred to that topic before coming here and it didn’t help.
And as far as I can see, disabling avast! makes things work fine. So its an avast! isuue.
I’m still looking for a solution. And again, thanks for the replies
