File System Shield is performing very low!

I’m currently using Avast 5 Free version on Windows XP system and i have noted that the File System Shield under Real-Time Shields was performing slowly than the Antivirus software i have used before Avast.

My system will be kept switched on for more 5 to 7 hours a day consistently, but Avast scans only 1500 to 2000 files.

But my previews Antivirus software has scanned more than 31,000 files in 4 to 5 hours, almost full. :-\

Is Avast’s real time protections are very slow ? Or my Avast 5 Free Antivirus has any errors.

I have downloaded Avast 5 from the Official website which was redirected to CNET’s download.com.

ANY HELP Please

Large number doesn’t mean it’s doing anything better. If any, it’s doing worse. avast! scans in a much more efficient way by not re-scanning known safe files over and over again. Without trading off ANY security while doing so.

avast! uses much less RAM memory. That means you can enjoy the internet, gaming, not even noticed that he works in the background.

No, I am sure it works as it should.

As RejZoR said, numbers isn’t everything

Less files scanned files can be due to persistent and transient caching.

Thanks for all of your kind replies…

EDIT: Never mind, I misunderstood the question.
