File System Shield - much odd behavior

I was processing a large number of jpg files and with my settings Avast was scanning them, so I figured I could temporarily turn off the File System Shield. I did, and the status said Stopped, but the ‘Last File Scanned’ text kept showing files were being scanned, and the Avast service CPU usage was high.

So I tried adding some exceptions for various folders and file types, no effect.

Then I turned File System Shield back on, and Avast stopped scanning the files that I had excluded and CPU went back to normal.

So I turned it off again and Avast immediately started scanning those files and CPU usage went way up.

This does not seem to be the desired behavior.

Program version 5.0.545.

I am compiling programs and I just upgraded from Free to Pro (v 5.0.545) and saw my compile times get 6x slower, and deleting a file is really slow.

Turning on/off ‘File System Shield’ or ‘File System Shield’ options had no effect on performance. But, after much playing, turning off the ‘Behavior Shield’ got the performance back.

So I am leaving ‘File System Shield’ on and turning off ‘Behavior Shield’.
