File System Shield's Exception list isn't working

I’m using latest version of Avast on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. My problem is Avast is blocking a program on original CD from executing (it notes that it found Trojan Horse) and automatically deletes the file (launch32.exe) and puts it in Virus Chest. So i tried to put exe file in Exception list of File System shield because this modul is blocking my program from running. So i putted launch32.exe in Exception list of File System Shield but it has no effect (i used “c:\program files\my program*” format). Program is still prevented from running. I even did a reset of machine but that didn’t help either. So i have a feeling that something is broken in Exception list of File System Shield.

Can someone help me to resolve this issue?

Thanks!
Morphi

Is the path shown in the detection popup exactly the same (i.e. matching the mask)? Isn’t it e.g. a short version (c:\progra~1.…) instead?

The path shown is exactly the same with space (e.g. Program Files)…

Can you please post a screenshot of the detection popup, and of the File System Shield’s exclusion settings?
(I’m rather confident the feature works - because every time it seems not to, the mask turns out to be non-matching in the end).
Thanks.

I’m sorry but how do I add pictures on this forum?
Thanks!

When you click the Reply button, there is an Attachments and other options link, this expands the options to attach a file, that can be an image file or a text file (.log or .txt), see image below (click to expand).

I hope that now works…

You might try to upload this file: launch32.exe off the CD and scan with 40 + virus scanners here.

https://www.virustotal.com/

You can see if other antivirus programs detect this file as malicious. Please post the scan results here, if successful, in your next reply.

I did that already and 28 out of 45 virus engines report file as malicious. But that doesn’t bother me because i need this program to work.

I found what is the source of the problem! I renamed directory from “C:\Program Files\S kolesom v šolo (Vaje)” to “C:\Program Files\S kolesom v solo” and know it works! So it seems Avast has problems with either parentheses or letters with caron…

Well, that is a choice one can make, to use a program that reports that 25 out of 45 virus scanners say is malicious. Are you sure you cannot use another (clean) program to do the same thing?

EDIT: It does look like the detection made by Avast! was correct. Why ignore the detection? You might as well run without an a/v solution in that case.

So now that I solved problem with exception list I ran into another problem with Avast. When I run a program with Avast Shields in the background (note that I included program in the File System Shield’s exception list) it crashes with BSOD almost everytime! >:( But when I run program with Avast Shields disabled program runs just fine. In both cases i run this program in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode. Wish I could upload minidump files so you could check it out…

hi Morphi,

You seem to be doing all this work to enable what program to run now? ???

Be aware that modifying a critical program such as Avast! does create/assume increased risks for you over what the standard configuration would be/is. If you were modifying a non-critical program such as Word, this type/sort of issue would really be moot, but not in this case. All I can ask is that you backup your system with a disc image before you proceed any further. This, in any case, should have been done first, before embarking on the path you are on now.

It is your system, and you assume risks when you do this.

This is Educational program on original CD I need it to work on 10 school computers. It’s somehow dated (from 2003) but it works when Avast is disabled. School can’t afford to buy new version of the program just because Avast have some problems with it. Let me mention that support has ended for this program so I can’t get help from publisher/manufacturer.

I don’t know why I even bother so much with this Avast. I will probably just uninstall it and install Avira on all school computers. Should done it in the first place… >:(
