FileHippo Update Checker

This is what you’re waiting for… FileHippo Update Checker (Beta) http://www.filehippo.com/updatechecker/
The database is not that big, but hope they improve it with the time…

The Update Checker will scan your computer for installed software, check the versions and then send this information to filehippo.com to see if there are any newer releases. These are then neatly displayed in your browser for you to download.
The client is FREE, only 100kb to download and only takes seconds to run!
It’s a standalone application, i.e., the application does not require installation and may be run directly from the desktop or download folder.

The Update Checker works on any Windows PC running Vista, XP, 2003, 2000 or 98.
It requires that the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is installed.

Privacy Policy: The Update Checker will not send any personal information back to filehippo.com. The only information collected is a list of programs and their versions, along with the operating system details to help with processing. Additionally none of this is linked to your IP address and the logs are deleted after processing.

Very cool! I’m usually very good about keeping my software updated and this thing managed to find several updates that I was not aware of. It even offers the option of the latest beta versions of software I have (it found the RC1 beta of Thunderbird 2.0 for me). Thanks for pointing this out!

I was feeling missed as nobody has even commented this post which, indeed, made me happy.
Indeed, there is a beta section and we discover a lot of ‘hidden’ updates, applications that we do not check for updates that frequently.
Hope the other avast users like it like we 8)

here’s off my hp laptop tech-not a bad program at all-thanks for posting it ;D

It works great, Thanks Tech

Personally I don’t like other people poking around in my system, regardless of any Privacy statement.

Just home from work and gave it a try. Very nice 8)

I tried it and I found it very useful. I even updated my graphics card drivers using it. But I found something strange about it: it shows software versions that sometimes you can’t find in the software websites. It also seems to provide the recent software from the filehippo website; I looked in the original software sites for downloading instead, just in case. Anyway, thank you Tech for the link.

Well… seems normal, this way they can address the update to a specific site/file, otherwise they will need to point the download to a third party site.

Well, that very logical actually.

Thanks Tech, it found the driver i’ve been looking for. Nice program ;D

Since version Beta 7 I can’t use UDC to scan non-default installation paths (with all subfolders scanning too).
I’ve sent two emails to the support team of filehippo: nothing, neither a drop word.
I have to say it’s not a good updater program: no support, no updates of itself.

Worse, filehippo is well known as being the resource for old version. For their own update, there isn’t a single old version to be downloaded. Shame and surprise…
