I was surfing the internet on a history page when my Avast sent me a popup saying there was a virus on my computer but this time there wasn’t a place to click DELETE. It said something to the effect I should sign off. So I rebooted and did a quick Avast scan and this time it gave me a list of files it couldn’t scan. I never saw that before. What should I do?
What you are undoubtedly seeing is the Web Shield warning. Having detected harmful http traffic (a web page or other item) which would under normal circumstances end up on your HDD, Web Shield intercepts this and only gives the option to abort the connection (not your complete internet connection, just the part being downloaded). This stops the page or item being downloaded so you are in the clear, so you won’t find it on the HDD.
avast! will also give a reason why it can’t scan a file (please give some examples and a location of the file), there are many legitimate reason why a file can’t be scanned, most common is it is password protected (avast doesn’t know the password so can’t scan it).
Hi BarbeeGee, if you have a pop-up saying that there was a virus detect and the only button on it was “Abort Connect” That means that one of your trusted shield :Webshield" prevented that virus from entering your computer. Click “Abort connect” will prevent the virus from entering your computer.
The items that cannot be scan have a few reasons like password protected, you shouldn’t worry much about these files.
