files that AVAST couldn't scan because the "archive" was protected

When I ran a manual scan last night, in the log it said it couldn’t scan a bunch of files because the “archive” was password-protected. All the filenames started with quicktimealt174.exe, which is the setup file for quicktime alternative. But the exe file isn’t password protected, all you have to do to run it is double-click. Can anyone tell me what’s up with that?
(I’ve got the exe file in the recycle bin right now, since it wasn’t scanned. Do I restore it or delete it?)
thanks

Don’t be in a hurry to delete it, the chances are it is not infected.
“Password protected” means that the file can not be scanned, and just that, not that it is infected. If you got the installer from a reliable source (normally free codecs .com? for that one) it should be OK. Many programs - usually security based programs- have their own internal password that neither Avast (not any user) knows nor would know how to apply. Its’ own .exe applies it (whatever and however) when needed.
I have used qt alternative before and don’t remember this issue, though. Where did you get it from? (Just in case.)

The quicktimealt174.exe is an installation file and as such contains many files inside, an archive. Whilst the exe file itself isn’t password protected there may be other archives inside that are.

Since this is a really old version the latest is QuickTime Alternative 2.8.0 so I would suggest you get rid of that and install the latest version available at, http://www.filehippo.com/download_quicktime_alternative/tech/.
