I also had this issue in beta after rebooting once install was complete. Installation hanging on Finishing Setup was a known issue as well and I thought to been resolved. VLK or other avast staff may ask for a memory dump.
I reinstalled/upgraded my os on that system I had issues. Since I had not had that problem on that same system.
It very well could be a problem with avast scanning files at start up such as any startup programs, processes/services, and even device drivers.
Even when I got it running, there is the web page loading issue. No time to waste trying to track down the problem, I’ll stick with 4.8 in a while until I have time to troubleshoot.
Got it working after many, many uninstall/reinstalls.
Each time I either got the ‘finishing setup’ hang and avast worked but froze system on 1st reboot (2nd seemed fine) …
or the install went smoothly but on rebooting avast was disabled and had to be uninstalled.
The unistall process hung as well when removing the various shields.
Also, when it seemed to work, the web shield absolutely cripples browsing - pages load painfully slow (with style sheets not loading etc.)
If I were an average user, I wouldn’t install again (and I’m not, untill a few program updates come out). 4.8 installs perfectly every time.
the first/second Avast! 5 startups with slowdowns are probably caused by building of pesistent cache which will afterward benefit Yout in major speedup of onAccess scans …
