Finjan Vital Security For Firefox Not Updated?

Well, I have Firefox 3.6.10 and it said Finjan version 1.314 couldn’t download because it wasn’t compatible. My question is, is Finjan still updated for Firefox?

It seems the last update was in 2009…

Still works great in IE8 and IE9.

As far as know Finjan has been sold to a company call m86security see link http://www.m86security.com/ this new company hasn’t plan updating the the old Finjan version to support the latest Firefox browser v3.6.10 this can only work on version 3.6.9 not the latest. According to the new company whether their planning to update the version or end of finjan support browsing version commisson, I haven’t heard any news if they are planning to continue or not otherwise we may have to move over onto WOT.

It’s only partially true. I have Finjan 1.314 installed on Firefox 3.6.10. This version of Finjan was taken from http://securebrowsing.finjan.com/ and it is compatible with Firefox 1.5-3.7a1pre.

George Yves finjan doesn’t work on the latest version of Firefox v3.6.10 please explain your justification claiming that you have Finjan 1.314 installed on Firefox 3.6.10 ??? ??? ???

Well it seems that they have changed the .xpi file add-on installation file, the install.rdf file within the .xpi only supports 3.0.* (see image). So this version, obtained from the link George gave, shouldn’t even support firefox 3.5 or 3.6, much less 3.6.10.

I have Finjan 1.314 add-on with Firefox 3.6.10 on six XP systems, and it works flawlessly (for now, anyway) except the Finjan/M86 servers are sometimes slow to respond or not available. I occasionally get this same behavior when testing a site at http://www.m86security.com/resources/url-analysis.asp.

It will be a shame if M86 discontinues this service for Firefox users, and maybe eventually IE users. If this happens, VTzilla (Browser Addons tab) will be a good choice for pre-scanning files and websites for FF users.

For those interested, the Firefox 3.6 add-on compatibility check can be disabled, but use with caution. How-To Geek

Well it is possible to modify the install.rdf (as in the image) and that only changes the single add-on and not compatibility checking for all add-ons.

You are right, that would be a better method. As stated before, I am not having any compatibility issues.

Trust your eyes if you don’t trust my words.

I didn’t modify the install.rdf, nor force installation with the help of other extensions. And you can read about the extension’s compatibility on the first screenshot.

Your images aren’t available. ???

It’s not just you, I have the same problem. :-\

We aren’t the ones with a problem. ;D

No, it looks like the company have consciously modified the xpi file effectively blocking anything higher than firefox 3.0.* as in my image, that is what they are currently serving up right now. When they made this change I don’t know, but obviously after you installed/updated it.

Try uninstalling at (not advised if you want to use it) and then try to install what is on the site, your in for a shock it won’t work.

You’re speaking about the images in my post? I’m using radikal.ru to display images and I can see them without any problem. Maybe they are blocked by something like MBAM resident protection?

Now you can see my screenshots attached to this post.

I’ve just downloaded and un-zipped the extension’s XPI-file to look into its install.rdf. You’re absolutely right: they modified it to be compatible with 1.5-3.0.* only. I really didn’t know about that and I want to apologize if I insulted you and SpeedyPC.

I see no much help from this extension but I don't want now to experiment with it. I'm thinking to get rid of it.

George it no need to apologise it cool no hard feeling I didn’t realised you had to amended some of the firefox extension file to allow Finjan add-on to work on the latest browser version, that’s very clever and it not the very scene-able way to do this because you can damage firefox very badly if you had to uninstall the finjan extension file you could end up leave junk behind inside the firefox browser which it not very good.

SpeedyPC

No offence taken and no need to apologise, all we were trying to do was clarify the situation,

You shouldn’t have had to modify the installation file or firefox to get it to work, the problem arises from the company changing the installation file that allowed it to run on firefox versions up to 3.7.

George just happened to be fortunate to have download or updated the add-on before the company arbitrarily changed it effectively dumping current firefox versions. When a company is prepared to get up to this nonsense I wouldn’t be using it anyway. Personally I tried it some time ago and ditched it as it slowed the search results, etc. (I was on dial-up then).

You’re right. I’ve uninstalled Finjan and my Firefox began to fly.

Sorry but I can’t quite understand the English you used in your post. Is it a dialect?
