Last night, I updated Firefox to 5.0 according to Firefox’s exhortations. I also updated Avast’s (free) engine, program, and virus definitions. I don’t recall which I did first, FF or Avast, but I got the FF error
Incompatible Add-ons Found
Some of your add-ons won’t work with this
update, and will be disabled. As soon as they
are made compatible, Firefox will update and
re-enable these add-on:
avast! WebRep 20110101
Today, I went through the motions of all of the above Avast updates, though I’m not sure if there was anything new to update.
I tried to navigate to some applications panel on FF to see whether the above add-on was re-enabled. Tools->AddOns isn’t it, it simply has a bunch of tabs, one of which is Get Add-ons.
I have the following two questions:
-
How do I view the add-ons that haven been added on to FF (I expect that some might be designated as disabled, perhaps even the one mentioned above).
-
What does this add-on do? Is it different from Web Shield, which is shown as running?

Thans, Asyn. I suppose that any newer replacement will be named differently, so FF’s intention to re-enable “avast! WebRep 20110101” when it is made compatible is a moot point?

Thanks again, Asyn. I think I’ll wait for the changes to propagate from the beta.

Isn’t that for alpha and beta users? If I understand correctly, the beta already works with the add-on.
WebRep Error Resolved
if you go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/
and install firefox compatibility reporter WebRep works fine again
No need to wait! 6.0.1198 may be still in beta but is is more stable than 5.1.889. 6.0.xxx has proven to be extremely stable. I would suggest you follow Asyn’s lead and upgrade to 6.0.1198. I think you find it to be a lot better than what you have.

OK, so I’ve never gone for betas before…bear with me as I ask some dumb questions.
If I go for this beta…it’s not just a normal update, right? Is it an installation as if I was doing it from scratch? Also, once it’s installed, how do updates work after that? I mean, I’m not using a regular version any more.
