Firefox add-on help

I need an add-on for firefox that allows automatic virus checking
for all files downloaded with the built in downloader.
I know it’s availabe just can’t find it.
Thanks

Hi bob3160,

The add-on is called SafeDownload, get it from here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3581

I work it with ClamWin and F-Prot (with the updater) on closing the browser, you can set it also to scan every download on downloading. You can install 4 scanners at once there.

It also works beautifully in Flock.

greets,

polonus

That’s the programs. Thanks polonus
Fore some reason it’s not available for download. :‘( :’(

I can get the zip file but don’t know how to install it…

All Done but the link you have listed isn’t available.
I downloaded it from the forum and then installed it through Firefox.

Thanks

Hi bob3160,

As long as you got it, and it works allright. That is all that matters. Enjoy,

polonus

Polonus, can we post the command-line (the application path and the parameters) for known free scanners?
Like Ad-aware, SpyBot, a-squared, F-Prot, BitDefender, AVGas, etc.?

For avast, C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe does the job…

Hi Tech,

It only takes four scanners, and it is easy you can just go to the executive of the scanner at hand.

polonus

It’s not so easy, I think, if you set just the executable, the file is not scanned but only the application (scanner) is opened.
For instance, I cannot manage a-squared and SpyBot, can you?

Hi Tech,

In the case of a-squared use the Command Line Scanner, that is a2cmd.exe.

a-squared Command Line Scanner v. 2.1.0.27
(c) 2006 Emsi Software GmbH - www.emsisoft.com

a2cmd.exe [path] | [parameters]

Scan parameters (can be used together):

 /f=[], /files=[path] Scan files
/m, /memory Scan Memory for active Malware
/t, /traces Scan for Spyware Traces
/c, /cookies Scan for Tracking Cookies

Scan settings parameters (used with scan parameters):

/h, /heuristic Heuristic scan for unknown Malware
/r, /riskware Alert Riskware that is often used by Malware
/a, /archive Scan in compressed archives (zip, rar, cab)
/n, /ntfs Scan in NTFS Alternate Data Streams
/l=[], /log=[filepath] Save a log file of the scan
(if no filepath is specified, the default folder "Logs" is used)
 /x=[], /ext=
Scan only specified file extensions, comma delimited
/xe=[], /extexclude= Scan all except the specified file extensions
 /d, /delete Delete found Malware
/q=[], /quarantine=[folder] Put found Malware into Quarantine
(quarantine folder is optional, otherwise the "Quarantine" folder is used)

Malware handling parameters (standalone parameters):

/ql, /quarantinelist List all quarantined items
/qr=[], /quarantinerestore=[n] Restore the item number n of the quarantine
/qd=[], /quarantinedelete=[n] Delete the item number n of the quarantine

General parameters:

 /u, /update Update Malware signatures
 /?, /help Show help message

Example: a2cmd /f="c:\windows" /m /t /c /h /r /a /n /q

Description: Scans c:\windows. Memory, Traces and Cookie scan enabled.
Uses heuristics, displays Riskware and scans in Archives and ADS.
Puts found Malware in Quarantine.

Tech, try this out, think we are on the right track here,

Damian

What does this have to do with the original question in here?
How will this help any one else since the topic isn’t related to what’s now being posted ???

I’ve tried before I’ve posted… no luck, the parameter /f= requires a path, a specific file or folder and not a generic one, the one passed by the SafeDowload plugin.

Sorry, Bob, I think we’re following the Polonus answer to you…

For ashquick you don’t need any parameters

Hi bob3160,

Sorry, that I tried to also answer Tech’s question in here as well. The original SafeDownload add-on was specifically built for NOD32. That it works with Avast and F-Prot also is a nice. Only with me the F-Prot DOS scanner won’t work because I have no floppy drive on my machine. Anyone in the know how to install F-Prot there, because I have the automatic uploader. In one way or other it won’t start.
All we learn about how to work the SafeDownload add-on and what to do with it is welcome, don’t you think.
For what do you use it Bob? For Avast inside the browser you can still install webshield, can’t ye?

polonus

polonus…i use firefox and doesn’t webshield basically do the same thing ??? ::slight_smile:

I have used F-Prot for Dos as a second opinion a lot of times, but I could install it in the HDD and use a third party updater. If you want, Polonus, I could send them by email to you (I mean, the updater).

Maybe I could find more info about the SafeDownload add-on searching a little about the Windows Explorer context menu commands, there should be addressed the way to use AVGas and Ad-aware.
