you guys spoil me with good help so i was gonna ask about this add on called no script. an effective app, maybe a little too effective. it can stop an entire page from loading and only plain html gets through.
well i can try to tinker with it but there is a number of controls im not too familiar with. right now the current issue im having is that no script is interfering with the new yahoo mail and the java controls are not working. (im guessing yahoo mail uses java for its interface) i try to “allow all” but it still doesn’t work, i have to disable it to get it to work normally. anyone know about this?
Does Yahoo email works if you run Firefox in safe mode?
Try this.
NoScript menu and select the Allow 216.xxx.yyy.zzz command you’ll find there. Next Yahoo! Mail attachment download will just work.
Notice that if you’ve got NoScript Options|Embeddings|Apply these restrictions to trusted sites as well checked (not the default), you’ll need to use Blockable Objects|Temporarily allow *@http://216.xxx.yyy.zzz instead.
Hotmail/Microsoft Live: Allow hotmail.com, live.com and wlxrs.com.
Ebay: Allow ebay.com, ebaystatic.com, ebayobjects.com, ebayrtm.com, ebaydesc.com, yahoo.com, about:blank
Yahoo: Allow yahoo.com, yimg.com, about:blank
Bloglines:, Allow bloglines.com, ask.com
Trillian browser integration, Allow file://localhost
okay, im looking at the responses now and see what i can figure out.
but it takes a little getting used to. i got it to work but only by messing with it. on sites like this i have to remember to allow just the site itself like “avast.com” then if something doesn’t load i have to figure out what it is i want no script to allow. like sometimes the login controls are use java and it wont work unless i allow a certain permission.
for yahoo, for some reason i couldn’t get it to work even when i allowed all or allowed globally but now i got it to work by allowing yahoo.com and yahooapis.com, i try not to allow any other scripts that doenst look familiar or looks like an external link that might exploit my browser but sometimes you have to - to get the page to work right. like going to a media site that has video, sometimes you can float the pointer over the video and it will show alt text that shows what site it comes from and i only allow that just to get the video to play. but only if i trust it and it seems to keep the adware off
do you mean run firefox in windows safe mode?
@sharky r u talking about an ip adress? i didnt see that. im not sure what i did exactly but i got it to work. i think my allow yahoo changes were added to the whitelist. the box is not checked next to applying to trusted sites.
He means firefox in safe mode not computer.#
Have a look at the S sign at the top of the Browser page & run your mouse over it, you camn tweak it from there.
You can type any address in the white list, any trouble on a web page with java --run your mouse over the S & allow java. on yahoo mail you can allow all the page
One more thing yahoo mail should of been in the white list so maybe you hit a dodgy site.
or if it needed java you need to allow it.
