Help, I don’t know what’s just been updated but yesterday (01/03/2006) both Firefox and Internet Explorer will crash after about 2 or 3 minutes use with Avast enabled.
With Avast turned off it’s fine.

What errors are reported in the windows Event Logs about the crashes ?
If you disable WebShield provider, will it help?

Both Event ID 1000
So far, I’ve paused WebShield and it seems OK so far
I connect to the internet via a LinkSys router and use the built in LinkSys Firewall, so Windows has no software firewalls enabled
Took a bit longer, but Firefox still crashed with Webshield paused.
I’ll see how I get on with WebShield actually disabled
I was hoping to see a faulting module in there which may have given a better indication of the true culprit. The only other thing in common is the fault address ‘0x001405f3’ unfortunately nothing comes up on google for that.
If it were only firefox and not both browsers I would have though it was a firefox issue, but I’m at a loss, especially since it still occurs with web shield paused and probably still when it is terminated.
I have heard of errors that are related to Event ID 1000 could well be memory issues and possibly why it is giving the same fault address, but that is just speculative.
I did a search for Event ID 1000 and this turned up many hits, this is just one http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q261007/ which talks about TCP/IP and DNS issues.
I did a search for Event ID 1000 Event ID 1000 internet explorer crash, again many hits IE6 - Random Crashes - Event ID1000
Completely fine with WebShield disabled.
It seems to have happened after a recent update.

Does the hardware firewall allow connections of the port 12080?
Do you use any proxy setting or application (an annonimizer for instance)?
I think I may have found what was going on. (Fingers crossed)
I had a virus, possibly the Bagle ae and possibly the Beagle BG3.
They caused all sorts of havoc on my PC, but a system restore has sorted it out.
