I updated the VPS to 091203-1. No problems with Online Armor now but Firefox and IExplorer won’t connect with Avast turned on. Works fine when it is off.
Hello screwed,
sorry for what has happened. you can just extract the false positives from the chest of avast! how to extract from chest? , see here : http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=376
if extracting doesn’t work, reinstall mozilla ff and ie8 over current installation. that should do.

@nmb,
I hate to interrupt but screwed is telling that turning off Avast! (Web Shield?) allows both browsers to connect to the net…
Rumpel
because the file is still in chest, you know that the copy of the file in chest still remains in the original location but will just be blocked if executed. but if avast is off, the file can be executed.
thanks

I see. I thought that the browsers couldn’t connect to the net but could be run. Any way, thank you for the clarification.
Rumpel,
although screwed has only mentioned about ie8 and firefox are not connecting, but he mentions “I updated the VPS to 091203-1. No problems with Online Armor now” I think he is talking about the same false positive thing. and the files of firefox and ie8 might be moved to chest.
edit : also observe the topic header.

@nmb,
I ain’t convinced by my own explanation, which was why I hadn’t replied to the thread. Sorry for interrupting.
FF and IE work when one of the two are turned off (Avast or Online Armor). I doesn’t work when they both are turned on (Avast or OA). I updated OA but it didn’t fix it. The last thing in my virus chest is from 11/29/2009 Win32:Malware-gen nothing from the 3rd.
okay now I guess its not the problem of false positive.
there was a topic regarding this OA and browser problem. search around a bit or wait for someone to post because I do not use OA.

@screwed
Please read this and check if ashWebSv.exe is not blocked by OA.
Thanks Rumpel, that fixed it. I had it allowed in the program section of OA but it was blocked in the firewall section. Weird though it said the decision was made in July and it all worked fine until yesterdays update. Must of been part of the fallout from the conflict.
Yes, that’s why I wasn’t convinced since it seems to have been working before. In any case, I’m glad that you managed to solve the problem.
Glad everything is fixed now.
