What version of firefox (3.0.10 is the latest) and I currently have 11 tabs open, mostly forum topics and my usage is much less. A lot also depends on if you have lots of firefox add-ons installed and I guess if the tabs you have open if they are media intensive.
Firefox isn’t a light RAM user, but version 3 is lighter than the old version 2, you could have an add-on which has a memory leak, which means it doesn’t release memory but continues to use more. Hoe to find that isn’t something I have ever had to do, so I wouldn’t really know where to start.
You can start firefox (Safe Mode) this runs without ad-ons and you should get an idea how much RAM is down to firefox and how much is down to add-ons when you run firefox in normal mode.
Dear DavidR,
Well once again thankssss a lot …
you are genius.
Actually it was “Yahoo Toolbar” Add on which was using enough memory, I disabled the yahoo! toolbar in firefox browser, and memory usage has gone much below than i mentioned in my above post.
And dont know whether add on is linked with it or not, but now firefox on clicking opens faster than before.
Regards.
You’re welcome, for the most part I avoid all tool bars as not only do they clutter up the available space, they don’t really offer the user much and they consume resources (and what they do offer is generally easy to do without the toolbar and more useful to the provider of the toolbar).
Dear DavidR,
lol… right.
even i dont use toolbars, but yahoo! toolbar was automatically installed with yahoo! messenger i think. Anywayz i’ve disabled it now.
Regards.
There are many other application that if you aren’t vigilant have toolbar option (pre-checked) in the installation process.
Dear DavidR,
Yep right.
Thanks.
Regards.
DavidR, something was wrong with my Firefox. When I try to go online, I get this error:
Proxy Server Refused ConnectionFirefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections.
The browser is configured to use a proxy server, but the proxy refused a connection.
I’m now running SAS.
Have you changed the Proxy settings in firefox then ?
Tools, Options, Advanced, Network tab, Connections, Settings button.
Dear DavidR,
Nopes i didn’t change any settings. My firefox browser is working fine. It was just utilizing more RAM, but after disabling the add ons, it’s working good.
Not using more RAM now as it was using before.
Regards.
My question was directly related to Jtaylor83’s post above mine, who is having a problem relating to firefox and a proxy.
Whilst it should probably have been in its own topic, it is related the the original topic, Firefox browsers.
I set to Manual Proxy Configuration, typed in localhost, and 12080 for the port. It was fine but now I had to set to “Auto-Detect Proxy” because of the error mentioned in my previous post.
Dear DavidR,
Oh, I’m sorry, actually I didn’t read Jtaylor83’s post. thought u were asking me.
Regards.
Well if you don’t use a proxy, you should set it to no proxy.
You shouldn’t need to set firefox to use the web shield proxy if you have XP, vista32bit or Win2k (win9x, winME, yes).
No problem.
If there are multiple posts between the question I would normally quote the text I’m answering (as in this instance) to avoid confusion, but if the post is directly above it I normally don’t.
