I keep getting ‘Gah, tab crashed!’ errors in Firefox after turning on Avast VPN. I am on Avast Premium. It’s never happened before just today.
It usually appears in the Firefox browser when a tab crashes or fails to load a page. This is not an Avast VPN error directly, but may be related to:
1 - Conflict with the VPN: Some websites or the browser itself may crash when trying to connect with the VPN activated.
2 - Corrupted drivers or VPN: The Avast SecureLine VPN installation may be corrupted.
3 - Outdated Firefox: Older versions have bugs that cause this error.
4 - Problematic extensions: Some extension may be interfering when the VPN is turned on.
5 - Problems with WebRender (Firefox’s graphical renderer) + VPN.
To solve this, do the following.
1 - Restart the browser and the PC
Close Firefox completely (use the Task Manager if necessary).
Restart the computer.
2 - Update everything
Update Firefox: Menu → Help → About Firefox
Update Avast VPN: Open the app → Menu → Check for updates
3 - Test without extensions
Open Firefox in Safe Mode:
Menu → Help → Restart with add-ons disabled
Access the same website with the VPN turned on and see if the error occurs.
4 - Disable WebRender
Go to about:config in Firefox (type in the address bar)
Search for gfx.webrender.enabled and change it to false
Restart the browser.
5 - Reinstall Avast SecureLine VPN
Go to Control Panel → Programs → Uninstall
Remove Avast SecureLine VPN
Download and install it again from the official website: Baixar VPN | Teste grátis de VPN | Avast SecureLine VPN
7 - Try another browser
See if the error occurs in Chrome or Edge with the VPN activated.
If it does not, the problem is only in Firefox.
If this still does not solve the problem, I can guide you to reset Firefox or make a diagnostic log of Avast VPN for technical support.
