Firefox 3 continues to run in the background after closing the browser, I looked for this problem in Google and read: when you quit Avast, this problem doesn’t happen. So I quitted Avast and this problem disapeared. Windows XP, latest Firefox version, latest Avast free version.
Who knows how I can solve this problem?

I doubt this has anything to do with Avast…when this happens, just terminate the process from task manager…I think your FF profile is corrupted somehow, you should delete a file in it called “parent.lock” and see how it goes. If the problem persists, create a new profile. If you don’t know how, just ask here 
It works! Thanks a lot! Firefox was guilty, I thought it was avast because when I stopped it the problem didn’t happened.
