Firefox Extension - Adblock Filterset.G Updater

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1136&application=firefox

This is a companion extension to Adblock and should be used in conjunction with it. This extension automatically downloads the latest version of Filterset.G every 4-7 days. Filterset.G is an excellent set of filters maintained by G for Adblock that blocks most ads on the internet. In addition, this extension allows you to define your own set of filters that you can add along with Filterset.G during an update.

Released on January 10, 2006

Yeah, though i noticed his filterlist is somehow less effective than mine.
Though that also depends on what pages you browse…

Yes my dear Flock testers,

It also works great inside the Flock browser, and next to Adblock plus.

As far as I could understand, you need Adblock + Adblock Plus with Filterset.G.

Author IMPORTANT: To use this extension, Adblock must be installed. Furthermore, to take advantage of whitelisting, Adblock Plus (http://bene.sitesled.com/install.htm) must be installed.

What is the difference beetween AdBlock and the AdBlock Plus?

Seems the diference is that it supports whitelisting :-\

I never had AdBlock because I never had the problems with ads at least it didn’t bother me so much. I used Proxomitron (quite powerfull though).

Can you provide some help about AdBlock and a some advices on using, because I’m downloading it just now. I belive this is the most elegant tool in it’s brance?

And so, you need all three extensions to work:
AdBlock, AdBlock Plus and Adblock Filterset.G Updater?

I think your right. I had problem with the updater and it didn’t work. I think you do need all three. :o

Installed AdBlock & Filterset.G. Then installed AdBlock Plus & it kind of overwrote the AdBlock.

It looks like AdBlock Plus is just AdBlock improved version. So, was this so obvious or am I that stupid 8)

You don’t need all three, just AdBlock Plus & Filterset.G.

Zagor,

That is right. Mind you update your extensions, when you are alerted to it. Adblock to-day was updated to a new version.
I run it both in FF and Flock, and like it a lot. In preferences you see the G-filter whitelist. I am on a platform where a blocklist or a hostfile is no problem, so a lot of the baddies cannot touch me.
For the rest of the hyperlinks I scan with Dr.Webs pre-link scanner. I could not live without this added security pre-scanning add-on, only 10 K install, and always the latest definitions to scan against at the upload servers of St. Petersburg. Also for Flock.

Greets,

polonus

Polonus,

Now that I have Adblock Plus, should the option in FF Block Pop-ups be checked or unchecked.

Can you post a link for Dr.Webs pre-link scanner, I remember you talking about it in some earlier post but I can’t find it.

Thanks

Hi Zagor,

Yes the pop-ups are blocked through Adblock as well.
The link for the hyperlink pre-scanner can be found here:

greets,

polonus

Thank you very much for that link.

Regarding the option in FF:
If i’m reading you corectly, the option in FF to block the popups is not required, since Adblock will do all the work?

Cheers
