Firefox is blocked by Web Shield

I cannot access my internet banking or my ISP home page on Firefox if Web Shield is enabled. As soon as I disable Web Shield, my Firefox returns to its full functionality! Help!!

I have the same problem. sigh I am so tired of Avast. Another week, another problem.

Oh an the UI problems are still there
Turned off web shield, so I can browse again, but is it reflected in the settings panel? Noooooooooooope.

I somehow doubt you should expect to get much in the way of meaningful advice given the lack of detail in your post.
What operating system do you have, XP, Win 7, 32 bit, 64 bit etc
What version of Avast are you using (The program version is show in Help->About Avast. The current version is 2014.9.0.2008
Is it the free version, or one of the paid for versions. Is it an autoupdate, or a manual install over the top of an earlier version.
What version of Firefox are you using.

Have you tried a complete clean install?.

Avast 2014.9.0.2008 with all shields enabled works quite happily here on Windows 7 pro, 64 bit, with Firefox v25.0 with AOS extension 9.0.2006.53.

I have the same trouble from last month upgrading avast! free 8.0.1497 to avast! free 2014.9.0.2006 or 2014.9.0.2007 and recently 2014.9.0.2008. It is quite curious for me because I never had the same trouble with 8.0.1497 but now none of the recent 3 updated versions funnctions accordingly and cannot open web pages with Java applet. For easy reference, you may check the page of Java Oracle (with my case in japanese language) for confirming Java version on your computer, and in my case never Java detect my uptodate version 7u45. I’m also checking english forum but cannot find out solutions. My browser is IE 10.

I understand this avast! free is based on Avast! Internet Security which includes firewall function. Isn’t it any relation to the trouble? Or most of the people without such problem?

P.S. Disabling the Web Shield, it is possible to open the mentioned page like the attached screen shot.

I have the following software:

  • Avast Free: 8.0 (40005) - (latest version downloaded)
  • Avast Virus Definitions: 13111400 - (updated definitions today)
  • Operating system: Mac OS X 10.6.8
  • Firefox: 25.0

Does that help?

Thanks for that. Unfortunately I don’t have experience with Mac’s, but it may help someone else reading this that does.
You say you are using version 8.0. I guess for personal reasons you have opted not to update to the current version 9 (2014)

I’m don’t know whether Mac’s suffer the same problems as some Windows PC’s do when program updates are done over the top of existing versions, but you could try first a repair, and if that doesn’t fix the problem, a completely new install.
You could also try disabling the Avast AOS Firefox extension, and see if that makes any difference.
