Firefox Manual Set Proxy

Okay, so I manually set the proxy to 12080 & then couldn’t log in to my email website…

I’m using Firefox, not IE. I have Vista.
I just downloaded Avast & read that you have to have IE4 & thought “no way…” So, I searched for Firefox & the only thing I could find was to manually set my proxy. So, I did. Then, couldn’t connect to the website I login to check my email.

Mail.yahoo.com

I can’t use it if I can’t get into my email. Does anyone know what I need to do to use Avast with Firefox? Can it be used with Firefox? I’m certain they wouldn’t develop it & not have a way to use it with Firefox. FF is too popular to have it not work with it, so I must be missing something.

if you can point me in the right direction, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks.

Sorry, don’t know what document you are referencing. You shouldn’t need to do anything to either Firefox or avast! to access your webmail site. Avast! Web Shield already intercepts and scans connections to port 80 without any further intervention. Should still work if you set your FF http proxy manually to localhost 12080 under options/advanced/network/settings but there is no need to do it. You should be able to see the “scanned” count go up under on access protection control/providers/webshield as you read your email.

Okay, so why under the EULA does it say “you must have IE”? I guess that’s just dated information? It operates fine with ff? if that’s the case, then I won’t worry about it. I’ll just run a quick manual scan to ensure it’s working & leave it. I turned off the manual proxy since I needed to get to my email. I was just wondering if it was necessary. Oh, and it was actually the tutorial video. After I read that IE was required, I searched for FF & it took me to the video tutorial, so I thought I had to follow the instructions, which were to manually set the proxy.

Thanks.

Ah, it sounds like the video you saw had instructions for Windows 9x, where the proxies did need to be set manually because of the OS. With XP, Vista it is all handled transparently for you. You can get a current users guide for avast! 4.8 at http://www.avast.com/eng/download-user-guides.html
