Firefox Tweaks

Can anyone post here some Firefox tweaks that increase performance and reduce RAM usage?

Some Tweak I know

Firefox Excessive Memory Usage

 1. Within Firefox, enter “about:config” (minus the quotation marks) in the address bar

 2. Scroll down to the entry “browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers” and double-click it.

 3. In “Enter integer value” field, type…

 • “0″ to disable the cache

 • “1″ through “8″ to set the maximum cache as 1 through 8 previously-viewed pages

 • “-1″ to return the cache to its default

I also know about this software called SPEEDYFOX

http://www.crystalidea.com/speedyfox

Here’s my idea, though its not much of a tweak anyway…

“The lesser the add-ons, the more stable, faster firefox is^^”

That doesnt bother me either as I have enough RAM to support my FF needs^[1]

 1. all the add-ons and themes I want ↩︎

I have a lot of ram 6GB ram.

But I just wanted to learn. Thats all.

Off-topic: Dude, your machine is a MONSTER.

Why didn’t you get i7-975, though? Was it not available at the time, or is there a sizable price difference? Or did your PC come with i7-965?

Just asking.

When I assembled my PC, I only found i7 965 in that shop. So, I bought it and assembled. I don’t know if it was the latest at that time. I went for the fastest in the shop.

Now the Play Station 3 Cell Processor is faster than i7 965, I heard it, but don’t know if this is true.

I am thinking about an upgrade but I don’t think I need an update right now.

Maybe I’ll update when USB 3 rolls out…

Another Firefox Tweak

COMPRESS FIREFOX

To compress Firefox you will need an executable packer. I suggest you download Upxfrontend. The file contains the open source packer UPX(Ultimate Packer for eXecutables) and a nifty GUI that takes the dirty work out of using the program(No command line).

After installing UpxFrontend, run the program. You will see two buttons that allows you to add either a file or entire folder to the compression list. press the button to add a folder, and find the location where installed Mozilla Firefox. By default it should be “C:Program FilesMozilla Firefox”.

Under Options, you will see controls for compression ratio, overlay, exports, etc. Set the Compression ratio to best and check the box next to Make Backups, just in case you find something not working properly afterwards… Click Start Compression and let UpxFrontend do it’s thing.

All of the files in your Mozilla Firefox Folder are now smaller, and the browser overall is much faster. The Firefox.exe alone went from being a hefty 7.3 MB, to a somewhat slim 3.1 MB. From my experiences, a compressed Firefox has a faster start up, and shorter pause when loading pages.

With your system, I can’t understand why your even considering tweaks to increase firefox performance and reduce RAM. My system isn’t a patch on yours, not to mention I’m on dial-up, so a cache is my speed bonus to save loading pages that are in cache.

I have 29 add-ons and I find nothing wrong with firefox, there are faster browsers out there (Chrome), but they are no way as configurable as firefox and don’t have the same add-on functionality (IMHO).

I just want to learn if there are tweaks. I use my PC mostly to try out new software, use HEX Editor and stuff.

I don’t play games, or waste time.

Call me a Nerd. I don’t mind.

20+ Ways to Tweak Firefox with the Userchrome.css File

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/tweak-your-firefox-with-the-userchromecss-file/

Hi Chris Thomas,

The pictures speak for themselves, translate txt there with google translate if necessary,
this is the so-called pipelining tweak:
http://www.firefoxtweaks.nl/
Then there is: http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_1.html

Now starting up faster: http://techzine.nl/downloads/9025

or download firetune

Another method prefetching:
start firefox ongoing using the following shortcut:
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" /prefetch:1
well the first time it takes you as long as the usual way, but the more you use it the faster it will become,

Tweak Firefox to Display Richer Colors

Not interested.

Hi ChrisThomas,

I’ve tried about every tweak I could get my hands on, Fasterfox Lite is really the only one I’ve noticed a difference with.

Hello friends,

Prefetch Links Dynamic speed increases can be obtained with Fasterfox's unique prefetching mechanism, which recycles idle bandwidth by silently loading and caching all of the links on the page you are browsing.

found this on fasterfox page.

use this carefully. it will prefetch the links on your current page… make sure you don’t have any malicious links on the page you are browsing…

nmb

Hi Nmb,

That is Fasterfox, the Fasterfox Lite I am speaking of does not have prefetching.
