Firefox has just released version 28 within the past 2 days, Avast is still recognizing version 27.0.1 as the newest version. I’m pretty sure this change can be made through the latest definitions update?
With over 200,000,000 users those (software updater) can sometimes take a few days to make the rounds due to server load.
What avast version are you using ?
Avast 9.0.2016 is the latest and with that software update recognisers firefox 28.0 as being up to date on my systems.
Better step it up. Mozilla fixed a bunch of bad vulnerabilities demonstrated at Pwn2own hacker contest.
Granted, Firefox should be updating itself in a timely fashion just as well.
Mozilla throttles updates in the first week or so to avoid overwhelming their servers. The Pwn2own vulnerabilities are legally disclosed thus are currently no threat to Firefox users at the moment. If there was an eminent threat like an attack in the wild, then Mozilla takes off all throttles and to push updates to users ASAP.
That is a common practice Avast does it and so does Apple, Google to mention others. Microsoft is probably the worst, even if there is known attack in the wild, they just issue a warning on the MS security advisory and any tips to mitigate the risk in the meantime, and tell people to basically wait until next patch tuesday.
