firefox video stuttering(?) after motherboard swap

Awhile back i installed a new motherboard in my pc and shortly after videos viewed in firefox such as youtube and some others started to flicker back to a previous frames a split second back (no audio issues). Turning off hardware acceleration seems to fix the flickering issue (i dont seem to notice it) but turning it off causes youtube and some other videos to use about half of my CPU.

ive only seemed to notice this in firefox, but i dont use other browsers often and i dont see it happen in videos on my hard drive.

After installing a new mobo, you need to perform a clean installation of Windows.

so is that a full pc format then? guess i better create a boot drive then.

Yes that is correct.
Format and perform a clean installation.
Don’t forget to check the manufacturers websites for the latests drivers.

Deactivating hardware acceleration is well documented and very often recommended cure.
If your problem is fixed after doing that, why do a brand new install ???

It is not a cure but a workaround.
The problem is a crippled Windows installation.
Although the drivers for the new mobo may have been installed, there are lots of remnants of the drivers for the old board that are causing the problem.

Sorry Eddy,
Cleaning things up should be done. Making sure the new drivers are installed also needs to be done.
A clean install IMHO is a bit drastic.
Even on a brand new install. I still disable hardware acceleration in Chrome to avoid YouTube playback lags.
The same would hold true for Firefox.

Yeah right.
Go tell someone who has no clue at all on how hardware/software is working how to remove all drivers (files, folders registry entries, undo changes in Windows files etc)

If you experience playback lags on Youtube there is a problem on your system.
You should fix the problem and not just use a workaround.

It’s Google that recommeds that fix. Nothing wrong with my system.
Even Avast has recommended disabling that setting in it’s program to lessen system impact.

Well, boot USB has been created and i will format my pc in the morning after backing up my bookmarks and files.

Im not a big fan of formatting my pc even though it doesnt take very long to reinstall everything. Its more of a worry something will go wrong and break my pc.

Also its a chance to finally get rid of this windows corruption which was caused after a format ages back and windows auto downloaded basic intel HD graphics drivers which then corrupted my windows, easy fix i just need to install my graphics drivers before i connect my pc to the net.

You could create an image backup. If anything goes wrong with the clean install. you can always go back…
If you have no problems with doing a clean install, it will always be the best option. It’s just not the fastest.

if anything goes wrong its gonna be hardware related. i also have the same fear of shutting down my pc (have done for many many years since windows 98) a fear of it not turning back on (which has happened in the past with older windows)

ok so now ive got all of the files i need backed up from my C: drive onto a flash drive

ok so its been about over a day since i reinstalled windows and so far everythings ok. I havnt noticed the flickering yet and now my windows is corruption free.

Sounds good to me.
