Firefox4 vs IE9, which one is less prone to virus attacks ?

from the comparison chart provided by Microsoft, the IE9 seems to be better than Firefox4 with more safety features…

but which browser is more prone to virus attacks ? ???

i’m more concerned with safety than features.

Search the forum and the web…
Please, not another browser thread…

Don’t worry about what browser to use. What you need to worry about is “what plugin or activex that runing in your browser?”

Firefox 4 with noscript is the safest in my opinion, you can’t really go wrong with it unless you allow scripts. You probably would also want adblock plus, Mcafee siteadvisor, Avast webrep, WoT and possibly an LSO deleter. That’s what I use anyways and I literally have never been infected.

Hi,just my opinion use any browser you like and run it inside a sandbox.

I never thought of that before, it acctually sound like a really good idea. IE9 seems to be safer than other browsers right now but that can change. Opera is deffinetally the most malware-prone browser.

In my opinion, both sandboxing and things like no script are overkill. When you search the web about the new browser versions, IE9 is rated very highly for security by almost every reviewer.

IE 9 is better than firefox…

Should always be prefixed/suffixed with ‘in your opinion.’

In my opinion as long as IE is so tightly integrated into the Operating System, has BHOs and uses activeX, there will be a risk, which is potentially greater than other browser (Chrome, Firefox, Opera). If you manage to exploit the IE browser you could have in effect exploited the OS.

I gave up on IE many years ago, but I’m forced to continue to update it because it is integrated into the OS you have to keep it up to date and get all the associated security updates for it.

Now the other browsers I mentioned are independent of the OS, not fully integrated and if you choose to abandon that browser for another, you don’t have to keep getting updates for it for the life of your computer.

Hopefully the day will come when IE isn’t integrated into the OS, then if you like it you can use it and switch browsers as things change and not be forced to continue with the updating of a browser you no longer use.

Never.

Remember, never in my opinion ;D

Personally I prefer IE9 - but then I find Firefox fussy to set up, and I am basically idle - In my opinion ;D

+3 I still smell a dirty little IE8 & IE9 dead rat up my noise ;D

Sure. ;D 8)

I like firefox but prefer IE9 because i dont have to go finding add on’s to make things work, as for which one is less prone to virus attacks i think it is six of one and half a dozen of the other,it really comes down to better browsing habits and a decent security program.
Iv never been infected with IE 7,8,9 or firefox.

Just to throw another log on the fire, I think Chrome is safer than Firefox, at least in their default installations , without the non-user friendly addons.

Who will can exploit an application that’s not in use ??? Whoever tries to exploit your system or another application first need to exploit the browser you are using(bypass it) and then the targeted program(executing it).

Using Opera for years and I never got any infection whatsoever in my browsing experience using Opera…
Of course Opera didn’t stop me frow downloading malware, but it happens because I’m deliberately downloading it for my own malware collection.

The same goes for Firefox and IE. I use it for years and almost never got any infection by using it (I rarely got hit and when it happen I have my antivirus blocking, intercepting, or cleaning it).

So, any browser is malware-prone browser only if it being used by malware-prone user…

I like firefox but i dont use it because most of the toolbars get installed in the firefox and is a pain to remove them(compleately)…

When i use IE 9, When my browser is unstable i just reset my IE and it comes back to normal self…

Firefox doesnot even have a reset option, hope they include in the next version…

Which toolbars…???
