Firewall 6.0.1125

I paid to upgrade yesterday. I have been using the free Avast version for several years. This morning, there is a yellow warning triangle on the Avast icon. It says I need to turn on the firewall, but when I try, I can’t. When I go to settings, there is no firewall tab (?). I have Windows Vista and use Firefox.

Thanks!

Install this: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/6.0.1198/setup_ais.exe
Solved…??

!

???

:o

Enough already thanks.

Oh well… :-[

What firewall were you using before you purchased AIS ?
If anything other than the windows firewall, then you need to uninstall that firewall or they could clash and it may be that which avast is preventing the firewall from starting for.

If you have uninstalled the previous firewall or it is the windows firewall - Try doing a clean reinstall:

  • Download the latest AIS version of avast, 6.0.1125 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais.exe (if you wish you could use the beta version suggested by Asyn, your choice) and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 5.x and 6.0.x).

    1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 5.x if previously installed and then for 6.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

Dave, this is a typical Vista issue, which has been fixed in the latest Betas, therefore the OP should download and install version 6.0.1198…! I just didn’t understand his/her reply.

Well lets find out what the OP has to say about previous firewall, etc.

Whilst this may be typical Vista behaviour you could have explained that to the OP in your first post before offering the beta build which supposedly overcomes that problem. Then there might not have been the weird response by the OP.

But the questions on previous firewall had to be asked as if it was a 3rd party firewall that is still installed, it wouldn’t matter what AIS build was installed.
