Firewall Application Groups

Hey guys

I have a question about the Firewall Application Groups.

When you/the firewall create(s) new rules for applications, they are added in an existing group of a vendor, or in the “other” group, or in a new created vendor group. But when does the Firewall create a new vendor group ? Has it to do with the application white list ?

it must be related to the program having a valid and “well known” (MS, Adobe…) signature. This said it’s still a mess. I’ve noticed after several uninstall and reinstall that some programs that use to be listed in their own group (again MS, Adobe etc…) are sent to the “other” group ;D You can still create the group manually if you prefer, and sent the entries there. I’ve also seen that minor software companies that use to reside in the “other” group get suddenly their own group in a new install (they got promoted ;D )
On a side note, just be careful to never delete a group containing applications >>> this won’t delete the application rules (they will still be there in rules.xml, and you won’t be able to have them appear again in the UI). If you ever need to remove an application just delete the app entry.
These groups don’t really matter, they’re just meant to keep the list tidy

Deleting a not empty group is not possible ( see screenshot ). Funny is that, although my language is set to English, the pop-up is in Dutch :stuck_out_tongue:

okay fine, I haven’t tried for a while, they’ve probably changed this and that’s a good thing because as said that led to confusion, rules not appearing anymore but still existing in the rules file.

That is why I asked

I have that too with the last pre release(s) and the current release as you can see from the screenshot I posted above ( FDM, Eraser ).

This bug was also fixed recently by the way…

true, don’t know what I’ve been smoking lately ;D I noticed it very quickly may be yesterday or sometime during the testing of 533, and I forgot it :-[ all programs are now listed properly in corresponding groups, with the exception of a few minor ones that have signatures but don’t belong to the club yet >>> “other”
