Firewall disabled - new user

I have just installed Avast Internet Security which is working fine apart from saying the Firewall is disabled. How do I turn this on. If I click “turn on” it says that firewall is unavailable.

Repair avast!:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → avast!
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

I followed your instructions and it didn’t work. It says I need a full update. I only put it on this morning! I have the paid for package - the first one.

  1. Download avast! Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

I have managed to uninstall avast and reinstall it and all is fine now. Thanks for your help.

You’re welcome.

One would like to think any new user of Avast AIS would not have to go thru the uninstall, reinstall protocol. I am also a paid member of AIS, and had problems with the beta releases of Avast 7…will never again download a beta release again, would sooner wait till the release! However all good with latest AIS which is preforming well and no problems…still the best Avast…well done!

Hi,

I tried also to install internet security 7 today and paid 29.98 for that…

But same problem : firewall not installed because “unable to install firewall driver”. I tried the above procedure, uninstall in safe mode etc… same result, so I’m left with no protection ! (windows XP sp3 as well)

I’m really angry to lose a lot of time with this problem after having paid for an unwanted new program. Any quick fix solution ? I’ve been for many years with avast, hope I will be able to keep on with it .

Thank you

Did you try uninstall AIS with Avast removal tool in safe mode? NO- Here is avast removal tool: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility.

I did exactly as explained on the web page you ask to look at, with the uninstall tool downloaded on that same page (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility)

The whole avast folder was removed, don’t know if AIS is in it…

By the way, your captchas are sometimes unreadable, and you lose your whole message if you fail… not very nice (and you are told you already sent the same message when you retry !!!)

in fact, either with the removal tool or without, the PC hangs at restart. Only difference: when watching the status bar during install, you see there is a problem with firewall install when you do not use the removal tool prior to install.
