I had the same problem everyone else had with Win 8.1. I was able to re-install Avast and have it working now, but I cannot get a Firewall issue resolved. Avast is showing a “!” on the toolbar icon, saying that the firewall is not active. I have tried to activate it, but it fails. Windows Defender firewall will work however, and I have it running now. I am OK with either firewall running, but I would like to clear the “!” from the toolbar icon. Anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish that ?
Repair avast!:
- Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → avast!
- Click on ‘Repair’.
- Follow instructions.
- Reboot.
